Spiffies Tooth Wipes are basically a small flavored wipe made to clean the teeth of babies and small children. Spiffies comes in three flavors apple, mango and grape. The idea is to wrap your finger around the wipe and brush your children’s teeth more easily. The National Parenting Center has recognized spiffies tooth wipes as a noteworthy product for children.
Since baby Go-Go (formerly dubbed Sir Eats Alot, but that has changed since he is on the move now) is just cutting his first two teeth, I was not able to try the Spiffies on him. I intended to save a couple of packages out for him, but my other children used them before I could. We received apple and grape. They really liked them, the taste and the new way of brushing their teeth. I did not mind how the Spiffies worked on my two year old’s teeth, but found that they are not good at getting the back molars since their grooves can be quite deep. I tended to rub, rub, rub my son’s teeth as I didn’t think that just a one time wipe would do a good job of cleaning his teeth. I think the Spiffies made my boys work harder at brushing their teeth, so they did an adequate job of cleaning their teeth.
One thing that concerned me is the sugar ingredient found in Spiffies, Xylitol. Xylitol is a natural sugar alcohol that helps prevents cavities. (California Dental Association) Yet, it has been reported to being dangerous to pets. So with the little bit of research I have done, there are conflicting reports and each of us has to make the best decision for our own families.
Spiffies comes in packages of 20 individually wrapped wipes. Retailing for about $6.00 per box. Love the little finger toothbrush Spiffies has on their site and want to try that!
Spiffies Tooth Wipes won the National Parenting Center’s 2010 Holiday Seal of Approval.
