Baby Receiving Blanket Recommendations

Ok, as time winds down to 5-7 plus weeks before baby arrives, I find myself taking stock of things we need to replace (or need more of) for this new baby. One thing is receiving blankets. Several years ago I found an ultra soft receiving blanket, at a garage sale no less and in mint condition too. It is still very soft and in decent condition, but the tag no longer says the brand – it’s completely worn off. It is a cute receiving blanket with bears bordering the sides in blue, pink and yellow colors on a white background. As if describing it will help you all help me with the brand?! So as I was thinking about baby stuff this morning, I thought I would check to see what brands of receiving blankets you all have found to be the softest, most long lasting ones and that you’d highly recommend.

I am wondering if Carter’s or an organic brand might baby brands to consider. The thing is I want something that have been truly tried and tested by moms. I don’t want to waste time or money on brands that will not meet the softness test or wear out fast with frequent washings. The one below is one that I came across while searching for receiving blankets, it’s an American Baby Company Organic Embroidered Receiving Blanket that I have never heard of before.

I love using baby receiving blankets for light nursing covers in the summertime, as a light blanket to keep the chill off of baby and even as burp cloths. Believe it or not. They have more coverage than a little itty bitty piece of cloth – we all know how much a baby can spit up at times! Especially if they are a hard to burp baby.

So please send me your recommendations for your softest, favorite brand of baby receiving blankets! Remember the clock is ticking as I feel about ready to burst. ;-o

Happy Blankie

Happy Blankie is another product with an inspiring story behind it. Two years ago a 7-year-old boy came up with an idea. A really good idea that combined his little sister’s love of stuffed animals and her beloved blankies, to create something special that would make children around the world happy! When David shared his idea with his family, they fell in love with it too and soon Happy Blankie was established.

There are four characters in the Happy Blankie line – Giggle, the Happy Pig, which is the face of a pink plush pig with a huge smile. This was Happy Blankie’s first creation. Then came three more smiling friends in the form of more animals – Tumble the Happy Bear, Stomp the Happy Frog, and Chase the Happy Dog.

David’s mom, Emily, came up with their second great idea and that was to give a blanket away to a needy child for every Happy Blankie they sold. Not only that, but to let the consumer choose where they wanted the blankie sent too! Thus, the mission of Happy Blankie was born, One to Love, One to Give, making people happy two blankets at a time.

We received Chase the Happy Dog to review and our son loves it. It is soft and furry on one side, just like a plush animal and the other side is a silky satin material that is soft and smooth. I thought it was a perfect combination, a warm, furry side for the winter months and a cool, silky side for the hot summer months. Chase is big enough to look like a long robe or bath towel around our two-year-old, but would make a great cape for older children . It is machine washable in cold, tumble dry on low. Chase washed up really nice, remained soft to the touch and just as loveable, if not more so now that he is officially “used”.

I think Chase the Happy Dog will become a fast favorite in our house. As a matter a fact, all our children couldn’t help but comment on how cute and soft the blankie is.

Rebecca Gayheart’s New Baby Girl and Little Giraffe

We’ve mentioned Little Giraffe baby blankets a couple of times over the last month or two, but that is because Celebrity Moms simply love Little Giraffe baby blankets! The most recent news that we hear is that new celebrity mom, Rebecca Gayheart and new celebrity dad, Eric Dane will be bringing home their new baby girl in a pink Little Giraffe baby blanket! Or perhaps they are already home by now. According to USMagazine.com, Rebecca delivered a healthy baby girl on Wednesday, March 3, 2010:

Rebecca Gayheart and Eric Dane have welcomed their first child, a baby girl, a rep for the couple has announced. The baby was born Wednesday in Los Angeles, rep Nanci Ryder tells the Associated Press. “Mother, father and daughter are doing great,” she said.

New Crib Makes Sheet Changes Easy

My nominee for the most tedious new-parent job? Easy–changing the crib sheets. Oh, sure, it sounds simple enough. But try it sometime and you’ll quickly discover that those tight-fitting mattresses have to be pulled completely out the crib–a task that requires the removal of the crib bumper as well as any toys or mirrors attached to the crib bars. And once the sheet is changed, you have to put it all back together again. When my oldest son was born, I quickly developed a complicated marital-guilt maneuver solely to avoid this very task.

Flash forward a decade, and things are looking up for my husband.
