Angela Kinsey (NBC’s The Office), who plays Nice ‘n Easy’s “Guardian Girlfriend” (aka Gigi), was in Grand Central Station last week surprising those who passed by via an interactive mirror. When women (and some men!) stopped to check out their reflection, Angela magically appeared to give them haircolor feedback and tips. Think candid-camera style.

These surprised reactions were captured and compiled into a short video. You and your readers can help benefit Dress for Success Worldwide by visiting Clairol’s website, viewing the “Candid Camera” like video and sharing with friends. Each time this video is shared, Nice ‘n Easy pledges to donate $1 to Dress for Success Worldwide (up to $50,000). In addition to the monetary donation, Nice ‘n Easy will also donate product to help women look their best.

Additional information on the program can be found here .

Consider how you might be able to help benefit Dress For Success Worldwide by posting Clairol Nice ‘n Easy’s Mirror Moments video link and sharing the video with your friends!??

As always, if you’re interested in trying any Clairol Nice ‘n Easy products or need help with shade selection, don’t hesitate to reach out. They desire to help.

PLAYATHON for Haiti – Let Kids Give Back

The media coverage of Haiti may have dimmed in recent days, but that doesn’t mean the rest of the population has forgotten about the aftermath of Haiti’s earthquake disaster. Celebrities have held telethons, in the UK celebrities recorded a single, and now children and parents have the opportunity to raise money for the devastated Haiti in a way children can relate – through PLAY.

Hasbro is an example of a corporate company taking on philanthropic zeal. They have created Hasbro PLAYATHON for Haiti. Read the following excerpt for more information:

In the wake of the devastation caused by the recent earthquake in Haiti, Youth HandsOn Network and Hasbro, Inc. have joined together to create a nationwide fundraising initiative for kids – PLAYATHON for Haiti. This effort will benefit SOS Children’s Villages in purchasing “pop-up” shelters for the orphaned and vulnerable children of Haiti.

When disaster strikes it is very important that children, like all people, feel empowered to make a difference in their world. The nationwide PLAYATHON for Haiti initiative gives children and families a way to put their compassion into action. In a twist on classic fundraising tools like the walk-a-thon, PLAYATHONS are group events organized around playing with toys, games or other fun activities – participants either secure a flat pledge for playing or pledges for every 15 minutes they spend playing.

All funds raised during the PLAYATHON for Haiti initiative will benefit SOS Children’s Villages, a nonprofit organization committed to the long-term care of children who can no longer grow up with their biological families. SOS Children’s Villages has been operating in Haiti since 1978 and is a key part of international efforts to care for Haitian children in the aftermath of the recent disaster. In addition to providing food, medicine and clothing to Haitian children affected by the earthquake, SOS plans to immediately provide long-term “pop-up” shelters for orphans in need. 100 percent of funds raised during the PLAYATHON for Haiti will be allocated towards the purchase of these shelters which, depending on size, cost between $1,250 and $2,500. Additionally, up until March 31, 2010, the Hasbro Children’s Fund will match the total amount raised through PLAYATHON for Haiti events in support of SOS Children’s Villages, up to a total of $500,000.

For details on how to hold your own PLAYATHON, please visit www.hasbro.com/corporate/community-relations/Playathon/Haiti.cfm

Help For Haiti Necklace by Danielle Stevens

News of Haiti has slowed down since the start of the Olympics, or so it seems. At least I haven’t been seeing as many headlines about Haiti. Yet, at the same time there is a trickle of emails or word of mouth events that are still raising support for this hurting nation. I have even heard from a friend that there are waiting lists for those willing to adopt children from Haiti once the Haitian government opens those doors again. One of the organizations purposefully working towards raising money for Haiti is Danielle Stevens Jewelry.

Danielle Stevens Jewelry has created an engraved Help for Haiti Necklace. It has the words Hope Faith Support Strength engraved vertically on a 1″ disk that is 10k gold plated with a 16″ chain with a lobster claw clasp. 80% of all sales will be donated to the Red Cross Haiti Relief Operation and its price is only $40.00.

About Danielle Stevens Jewelry

Following current trends and determined to establish her own, Danielle Stevens is one of the jewelry designers to watch in seasons to come.

Launched in 2002, Danielle Stevens Jewelry is a fun, fresh, whimsical line that is popular among women of all ages. The designs are creative and fashionable. With four collections produced each year, the line is carried successfully in many stores nationwide including Anthropologie and Bloomingdale’s, and in specialy stores and boutiques like Henri Bendel and Wink in Manhattan and Kitson in Los Angeles.

Her big break came in April, 2005 when a necklace from her spring collection was featured on the cover of Town & Country with an Oscar de la Renta gown.

Color and texture inspire her the most. Danielle is fascinated by nature’s ability to turn something ordinary into magnificent gems and enjoys combining these natural elements with beautiful man-made plastics and ceramics in her work. She loves to experiment with different shapes of objects intertwining them with 10k plated matels and select items with gold vermeil. She has traveled the world to find only the finest stones, crystals, and beads, and brings aspects of many cultures into her unique designs.

The Danielle Stevens Jewelry line consists of a variety of earrings, necklaces and bracelets.

Efforts around the world continue to be poured out in support of Haiti and the needs of the people there. We recently shared information about ways for your families to reach out and help in those efforts to support Haiti during this devastation. One of those ways was to donate breastmilk. We received the following update on that particular effort today from VirtualBreastfeedingHelp.com. Read more below:

As promised we are updating you on DONATING BREASTMILK TO HAITI!

Breastmilk for Haiti The USS Comfort, the Navy’s floating medical treatment facility, is taking patients from Haiti. They have a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the onboard lactation consultant has pumps and kits to assist lactating mothers. The neonatologist has requested banked human milk from the Human Milk Banking Association of North America. Donations of milk are desperately needed to support this effort and ensure that US babies have the donor milk they need. To help, please call (408) 998-4550. Please remember that HMBANA milk banks are nonprofit, so monetary donations are needed as well.

Haiti and the Earthquake Aftermath

January 18th, 2010 by Theresa Gould

I know many of you have probably been following the earthquake aftermath in Haiti. The pictures, videos and stories all tell the devastation an already poverty stricken country is facing. Can you imagine the hopelessness and despair that the people of Haiti are experiencing? Our problems seem so small in comparison, don’t they?

There have been numerous countries that have sent workers, supplies and evacuations for those citizens of select countries. You just have to feel for all the workers too because amidst the devastation there is chaos, blocked streets, fallen buildings, and lack of supplies even with what is being brought in – I read of a Haitian doctor whose house had not toppled during the quake and he was basically running a triage center out of his home. At the time that I read the article, he was housing approximately 100 people, most of whom needed medical attention in some form or another. They had lost 18 patients, the worst loss for him was a pregnant woman who apparently had internal bleeding. They preformed the c-section, but were unable to save the baby either. He said it was a difficult loss because he knew what to do but did not have the equipment to do it. So sad, eh?

Among the things that I have read and saw, I think the photo of a baby or a child no older than 2-years-old dead in the street all covered with gray dust from the debris. It just breaks my heart to think of all the orphans, the parents who have lost children and their homes. Another other image that stands out to me, besides all the fallen buildings, is the make shift tents created out of sticks and thin sheets.

Are you doing anything in support of the relief efforts? There are many organizations to decide where to send a donation. I came across some mom bloggers (Money Saving Mom, who started it all and The Happy Housewife where I learned of the project) who are hosting the “Help Haiti Project” and when I read what they were doing, it inspired my family and I. We will be giving a bit of money to a family in our area who has family in Haiti. It seems like a small sacrifice compared to all that the Haitians are going through right now. If you have done or are planning to support the relief efforts in some way, please share it with us.

I know we all know or at least know of a family who has a critically ill child. Those of us with healthy children can only imagine what these families are going through. Or perhaps you are one of them. We received information this week about pediped® footwear’s special shoe promotion to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. We hope all of you try and imagine walking in the “shoes” of these families and seriously consider supporting this very important charity drive. Don’t these children deserve an amazing wish come true?

Beginning today and running through Feb. 5, pediped® footwear will host a Purchases with Purpose fundraiser to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. During this period, select styles of both Originals and Flex shoes will be marked down as much as 40 percent. Half of the sales from this promotion will be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation to help grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

‘We are so proud of pediped® footwear’s continued support of the Make-A-Wish Foundation,’ said pediped® President Angela Edgeworth. ‘We’re thrilled to start 2010 with this meaningful promotion and we hope that everyone who loves pediped® footwear will go online and shop to make a difference.’

pediped® will host several different fundraisers throughout the year to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. In 2009, the company raised more than $145,000 to help grant wishes and its goal is to surpass that figure in 2010. Information on current and upcoming fundraisers can be found at www.pediped.com.
