Mar 03

This Friday, Disney has a new movie premiering called, Alice in Wonderland in movie theaters across the country. I think younger children would find this movie a bit scary, but older ones will probably be thrilled by it, literally. It seems more riveting than I remember the old Alice in Wonderland being.

Here’s what one website reported for early reviews:

Critics for the Manhattan dailies won’t get to see “Alice in Wonderland” until Monday night, but there are already reviews online out of London, where Tim Burton’s re-imagining with Mia Wasikowska as Alice and Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter had its world premiere last night. Both The Times of London and The Independent give it 4 out of 5 stars, but stop well short of flat-out raves you might expect from that rating. Kate Muir in The Times calls it “spectacular” and “a 3-D epic for the next generation,” but notes that “traditionalists may quibble with Burton’s gothic ride through the Alice books” and her enthusiasm seems carefully qualified. Geoffrey McNab’s notice in The Independent is more pointed — “a wildly inventive film straightjacketed in conventional narrative..that grows increasingly one-dimensional and simple-minded.” Ouch.

Thought I would share the trailer in case you haven’t seen it yet:

Just in time for the movie premiere, eDressMe.com, a top online retailer of dresses for all occasions, will be selling the Sue Wong “Alice in Wonderland” collection of dresses, using antique lace and colors inspired by the movie’s characters: Alice, the Red Queen, the White Queen, the White Rabbit and the talking flower garden.

Pictured below are some of the dresses from the Sue Wong collection for Walt Disney Signature. The styles include baby-doll, empire waist and column dresses. These exquisite dresses are not cheap, the collection retails for $329 to $609 and are available at www.eDressMe.com

New York Fashion Week

Posted on: March 01, 2010 @ 11:08 am     No Comments »

New York Fashion week was held in New York February 11-18.

There is no more fashionable or convenient place to experience New York’s Fashion Week than The Paramount Hotel, located just 4 blocks from the main event in Bryant Park. From Friday, February 12 to Friday, February 19, the best designers from around the world will gather to show off their Fall 2010 collections and soak up the NYC ambiance. Featured designers, sure to be seen both on the runways and around Times Square, include: Malandrino, Christian Siriano, Diane Von Furstenberg, Zac Posen, and 3.1 Phillip Lim.

It was interesting to take a look at what designers have come up with for 2010 Fall Fashion during the New York Fashion week. I was pleasantly surprised that many outfits actually covered the models bodies in one article I read from Betty Confidential. From attractive evening gowns to tunics and leather pants. The minis and bare legs made me shiver for the models but that is just the way fashion is, right? Sometimes fashion comes before comfort and warmth.

P.S. I got a kick out of the the Geico commercial at the beginning of this video! :-)

Celebrity Mom Sarah Jessica Parker was backstage at the Halston Show during New York Fashion Week and she was wearing a Halston outfit too:

I don’t think these survey results will come as a surprise to many of us, but it is still interesting to hear that we are not alone in our search for the “perfect” fit clothing or that many of us struggle with shopping for clothes for ourselves. Our husbands and children are easy to buy for aren’t they? ;-)

OneStopPlus.com Survey RevealsWhat women want…but have the most trouble finding!

OneStopPlus.com, the world’s largest online shopping destination for style-conscious, plus-size women, reports what women find the most frustrating styles to find for their body type. As a site that offers solutions to plus-size women, the interactive survey polled shoppers to reveal what specific clothing items were the most troublesome for which to find the perfect fit.

Not surprisingly, the majority of women (42%) said that pants were the most difficult item to shop for, followed by an incredible 37% indicating it is hard to find the right bras. Dresses, swimwear and boots were all equally difficult to find correct fits for, with 14% for each. The full results are available at onestopplus.com.

Nancy LeWinter, Editorial Director for OneStopPlus.com, says, “Shopping can be difficult for women of all sizes, but specifically when it comes to busts and butts. There is nothing more empowering than incredible selection combined with credible style advice and women are now finding it much easier to purchase the most appropriate fashion for their bodies. At OneStopPlus.com, we take pride in being responsive, so the more we know what consumers want, the more solutions we can provide.”

Launched in 2007, OneStopPlus.com has quickly become the world’s first and only online plus size fashion mall, recognizing the importance of fashion in the plus-size market. OneStopPlus.com has rapidly expanded with fashion-forward collections and reasonable prices, while also offering editorial content, how-to-videos, a plus-size blog and runway shows.

With access to today’s leading plus-size brands including: Woman Within, Roaman’s, Jessica London, Avenue and European brands like Ellos, Taillissime, and now Ulla Popken, OneStopPlus.com offers plus-size customers the same fashion options as their missy counterparts.

Plus Size Clothing For Women

Posted on: January 26, 2010 @ 1:00 pm     3 Comments »

You have to admit that we all come in different sizes and packages, don’t we? Whether we are short, tall, thin or matronly, our body sizes differ as much as our likes, dislikes and personalities do. We received the following information from OneStopPlus.com recently and wanted to share it with you:

Well-Known Retailers are Joining the Plus-Sized Bandwagon

According to recent statistics:

* 67% of all Americans are overweight
* 31% of all Americans are clinically obese
* 62% of all American women (18 or older) wear size 12 or higher

Try to shop at a major store ? They have all the size 4 and size 8 you want, but don’t hold your breath to find a 12 or 14. Even worse, if you can find a “plus size” (don’t you just love euphemisms?), it often looks like a plus size. Why can’t a larger woman be allowed to dress fashionably, or even sexy? In recent years, plus size models, fashion shows, and catalogues have begun to appear, and each time, the fashion media makes a fuss.

OneStopPlus.com
has long recognized the plus-sized women’s desire for fashionable clothes. Always expanding with its newly launched European brands Ellos and Taillissime, this first and only webmall for everything plus-size, has set the tone for a chic and fashionable selections. Now, other well-known retailers like Forever 21 are starting to identify and cater to this rising market.

With over 20+ years of experience in the fashion and publishing industries, Nancy Nadler LeWinter, a plus-size fashion expert from OneStopPlus.com, can offer insight on how the expansion of the plus-size retailers affect the overall industry and women’s perspectives on size.

“Fashion is fashion no matter what your size. The secret to looking great at any size is to play up what you like about your body and to balance your clothing. The plus size market is finally receiving the recognition it deserves.””

Destination Maternity is Red Hot This Valentine’s Day

Posted on: January 25, 2010 @ 8:00 am     No Comments »

Each of us will have different tastes and styles, especially when it comes to clothing. During pregnancy, it can be a challenge to feel that we look great, wouldn’t you agree? The key is finding clothing that is flattering to our ever-changing size and shape while expecting. Expecting a baby is a special time in our lives and there is no reason why we shouldn’t continue to look and feel great. I know I will need to go through all of my maternity clothes this spring and may need to add a few pieces to my wardrobe since it has been nearly seven years since I was pregnant through the summer months. So if you are like me, you probably keep your eye open for that next new article of maternity clothing that appeals to your eye, especially if you have a special event to attend.

Destination Maternity seems to have some decent prices and at least a variety of items. I haven’t found anything that tickles my fancy yet, but…

We did receive word that…

Destination Maternity® is Red Hot This Valentine’s Day!

Take a peek and see what you think…

“This Valentine’s Day, love is in the air and it’s definitely showing! The expectant mom is dressing for two and Destination Maternity will make Valentine’s Day hotter than ever with Motherhood Maternity and A Pea in the Pod Collection.

From sexy lingerie to beautiful dresses, Destination Maternity has got the special mom-to-be covered.

Whether the mom-to-be chooses Motherhood Maternity’s amazingly priced 3/4 Sleeve Faux Wrap Maternity Dress ($29.98) or A Pea in the Pod Collection’s sexy red lace thong from Hanky Panky ($18), she will look and feel her best!”

Demin Therapy has come up with a way for expectant moms to continue to wear their comfy old jeans all throughout their pregnancy, which should excite a lot of you moms! Denim Therapy is a way for you to save money on buying new maternity jeans!

Denim Therapy is actually providing a service that allows your jeans to become maternity jeans and thus grow with your “bump”. Denim Therapy services “expand your jeans to accommodate pregnancy by inserting expandable side inseams that move and grow with mom-to-be.” After you have your baby, Denim Therapy will take the expandable inserts out and restore your jeans to their former pre-baby shape. The cost of both services is $60. This provides a way for you to preserve not only your jeans but the environment, too! DSC_6067

The goal of Denim Therapy is to provide environmentally conscious repair for your favorite blue jeans. In addition to the maternity service mentioned above, they also provide repairs on worn, torn, ripped or tattered jeans. You name it, they can do it – hems, zippers, pocket repair and even belt loop stitching. Each item is assessed and reconstructed individually, “one denim patient at a time, like a true denim doctor.”

They use MatchPerfect™ cotton thread to find the thread closest to the color of your jeans and it is this selection process that enables them to create the best looking repair possible. Denim repair costs an estimated $7.00 per inch, plus shipping, which on the average is $12.00 per pair. There is an approximate 2 week turnaround. For additional information, http://denimtherapy.com It’s the perfect solution – repair and reuse.

Mayu Hand-Knit Alpaca

Posted on: September 25, 2009 @ 8:00 am     2 Comments »

Mayulogo
Kate Robertson, owner of Mayu Hand-Knit Alpaca, created Mayu after serving as a volunteer in the Peace Corps in Peru for over two years. She fell in love with the Peruvian ladies and their incredible knitting skills. These artisans learned to knit at very young ages and Ms. Robertson desired to help them establish a business doing what they do best – knitting. Ms. Robertson held workshops and met with the ladies on a regular basis while in Peru, thus forming very good relationships with them. The ladies are all mothers, some married, some separated, and some single. As mothers, they desire to be with their children and be able to earn an income to help with the family’s finances. 2colorhoodie_1

Therefore, as Ms. Robertson was finishing her time with the Peace Corps, she came up with the idea of starting Mayu in an effort to continue to support and assist her Peruvian friends. The mission of Mayu is to provide fair wages and to generate income for her beloved artisans. The income generated through Mayu helps provide better education for the women’s children. Also, one lady was able to have dental work done and others have traveled outside of their village. colors

As you see, Mayu has some very high quality items. The shawls could double up as a nursing cover for discreet breastfeeding. The long hoodie ($179.00) is great and makes life easy to carry children around, play with them and deal with them while wearing a hoodie because it is comfortable, won’t get in the way and it stays on your body. The Peruvian women take about 16 hours to knit a capelet and 24-32 hours to knit the long hoodie. Then they hand wash, dry and hand sew tags on. There is additional time invested to travel 2.5 hours to the city to mail the products to Mayu. The value of the products far outweighs the cost when you consider the time each artisan puts into her work. Mayu’s hand-knit alpaca products are another gift that gives back. Shop Mayu. hoodiediagonal-2

Motherwear Sale Ends Today

Posted on: September 14, 2009 @ 8:58 am     No Comments »

mw_logo_color1

Motherwear offers nursing apparel that is suitable for the working mother or a stay-at-home mom. Their current sale has 20 nursing tops that offer style, fashion, comfort, plus a way to nurse discreetly. Each top offers its own unique nursing opening and comes in a variety of colors and styles.

Let me just share a couple of selections with you:

22075_8

In the picture above is Motherwear’s Simple Solutions Tee in the color Papaya. The neck is square, with an almost empire look to it in the design with its pleats. It is short sleeved and Motherwear calls it “this new cool Raglan Tee that is casual and comfy.” It comes in six different colors: Amethyst, Black, Goldenrod, Irish Rose, Peridot, and Papaya. The fabric it is made out of is cotton/spadex. The nursing openings are front only. This casual tee is regularly $32.00 and now on sale for just $19.00.

The next item is the Lucinda Top, which comes in just two colors: Eggplant and Mallard. Both of these are rich, warm colors that make me think of Fall weather. It comes in only long sleeves, is made of cotton/spandex and only has the front nursing panel. It is an elegant looking tee that would look great with pants or a skirt.

Remember the sale ends tonight. Motherwear is also offering free shipping on orders over $125, so be sure to include the code FL97.
