Mar 03

This Friday, Disney has a new movie premiering called, Alice in Wonderland in movie theaters across the country. I think younger children would find this movie a bit scary, but older ones will probably be thrilled by it, literally. It seems more riveting than I remember the old Alice in Wonderland being.

Here’s what one website reported for early reviews:

Critics for the Manhattan dailies won’t get to see “Alice in Wonderland” until Monday night, but there are already reviews online out of London, where Tim Burton’s re-imagining with Mia Wasikowska as Alice and Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter had its world premiere last night. Both The Times of London and The Independent give it 4 out of 5 stars, but stop well short of flat-out raves you might expect from that rating. Kate Muir in The Times calls it “spectacular” and “a 3-D epic for the next generation,” but notes that “traditionalists may quibble with Burton’s gothic ride through the Alice books” and her enthusiasm seems carefully qualified. Geoffrey McNab’s notice in The Independent is more pointed — “a wildly inventive film straightjacketed in conventional narrative..that grows increasingly one-dimensional and simple-minded.” Ouch.

Thought I would share the trailer in case you haven’t seen it yet:

Just in time for the movie premiere, eDressMe.com, a top online retailer of dresses for all occasions, will be selling the Sue Wong “Alice in Wonderland” collection of dresses, using antique lace and colors inspired by the movie’s characters: Alice, the Red Queen, the White Queen, the White Rabbit and the talking flower garden.

Pictured below are some of the dresses from the Sue Wong collection for Walt Disney Signature. The styles include baby-doll, empire waist and column dresses. These exquisite dresses are not cheap, the collection retails for $329 to $609 and are available at www.eDressMe.com

Ryan Seacrest went to a lot of trouble to surprise is mom this Valentine’s Day. Guess what he did? He worked with Scope Outlast to put on this Kiss Mob surprise for his mom, Connie, (the lady in the blue sweater to the left in the photo) for Valentine’s Day. To use the words of our PR contact, “quite the elaborate – not to mention, fashionable – gift from son to mother.” Wait ’til you see the dancing in the street too….check out the YouTube video for that! GRAMMY AWARD WINNING ARTIST REBECCA ST. JAMES

TAKES FEATURE ROLE IN NEW PRO-LIFE FILM

“Sarah’s Choice” Will Release Nationally on DVD November 17

NASHVILLE, TN (November 3, 2009) - One of the biggest name artists in contemporary Christian music — Australian born, Grammy Award winner Rebecca St. James, is about to add her first leading role on film to her impressive lists of accomplishments–a list that also includes success as a motivational author and speaker, with more than a half dozen major books to her credit.

Her debut lead acting role is in the November 17th national release of “Sarah’s Choice,” a faith and values based production from PureFlix Entertainment with a strong pro-life message. The story line follows an ambitious young career woman on the fast track to success when she suddenly discovers she’s pregnant outside of marriage. The role is a courageous one for the single Aussie singer who has made a bold statement on the abstinence message throughout her career. Her strong stance has even caught the attention of the White House, and she has become a fixture in the national spotlight for her outspoken views on the issues facing America’s youth.

St. James feels that the pro-life message in “Sarah’s Choice” is one that holds promise of helping young women choose life in the midst of the distress of an unplanned pregnancy. Even she herself admits being impacted by the movie.

“I think the biggest thing the film imparted to me, both in researching the role and in portraying the character, was a real sense of empathy for women who find themselves in the situation my character is going through. My heart goes out to them as I have seen the extreme amount of pressure and fear that can come at such a vulnerable time,” she says.

In a culture that seems to diminish the significance of this life-altering decision, for both mother and child, St. James sees this film as an opportunity to be a voice of hope and encouragement for those in need of it.

“If they’re not getting God honoring advice, too often they choose abortion, which brings with it the incredible pain of guilt and regret. I came away from the movie with a real passion to impact this group of women with the message of God’s heart for the unborn and the young women facing the choice of the life of their baby.”

The film also stars comedian Brad Stine, Charlene Tilton, Dick Van Patten, and Staci Keanan (Step By Step, My Two Dads).

The DVD, which includes bonus featurettes including “The Making Of,” “Trailers,” and “Commentary,” will be available at all major Christian stores November 17.

For more information or media resources for “Sarah’s Choice,” please visit www.pureflix.com/sarah

Brainy Baby DVD Review

Posted on: November 11, 2009 @ 8:00 am     No Comments »

BBrings-logo

Every parent views their child’s education as an important part of life. As satisfying as it is to teach our children in everyday situations, let’s face it, we all get a little busy sometimes. It is during these busy times that educational tools can assist us in teaching our children. I do not endorse exclusive use of DVDs, TV or computer programs to teach children. My humble opinion is that real life and hands-on activities are the best ways our children absorb what we are trying to teach them. However, educational TV and computer use are definitely tools today’s parents appreciate.

BB 123's Image Final2

Recently, we received two complimentary Brainy Baby DVDs to review – The ABCs and the Shapes and Colors DVDs. These were cute DVDs filled with real children and babies. They were wholesome, lively and both of them did a very good job presenting the information being taught to the children. There was lots of repetition, which children love as it helps them retain the material better.

In each of the DVDs there were not only real children, but real objects, including healthy food and animals. While animation was used, it was minimal compared to many other products on the market. Our children love animals so they showed a lot of excitement when their favorites came onto the screen.

The music and songs used were cute and catchy, keeping the children’s attention very well and ones that most parents won’t mind listening to, as well.

BB ABC's Image Final2

The Brainy Baby DVDs are ones children will love to watch time and again during the busy moments in life. Children over the ages of 5 or 6 will find them cute, but will probably tire easily if they already know the material being taught. They are best suited for children ages 1 to 4 or 5.

Remember yesterday’s post about Brainy Baby’s Giveaway and check it out at www.myfreebrainybaby.com

Get Ready For Fall with “Wubbzy Goes Boo”!

Posted on: September 10, 2009 @ 8:00 am     No Comments »

511hwH1UPML._SL500_AA240_Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!: Wubbzy Goes Boo was released on Tuesday!

I meant to tell you about it before now, but I’ve been so busy blogging about Shoe Trends For Fall 2009 over on The Fashionable Housewife, that I forgot all about it!!

My daughter (The Fashionable Bambino) is a huge Wubbzy fan, as you may already know. She can sing the whole Wow Wow Wubbzy theme song, bring her little Ty Beanie Babies Wubbzy to bed with her, and she even has the Kooky Carry-Along Coloring Kit, stickers, and almost every Wubbzy DVD.

The newest DVD we’ve added to our collection is Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!: Wubbzy Goes Boo was released Sept 8th. It retails for $16.98 and you can find it in stores like Wal Mart, Target, etc or you can purchase it online on Amazon.com for only $12.99 and get free super saving shipping if you can manage to add a few more things to your cart like Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!: Wubbzy’s Big Movie or pre-order a copy of Wubb Idol staring Beyonce!

If you have the Nick Jr. / Noggin station on your TV, you may have seen a couple of the episodes on Wubbzy Goes Boo. The first episode on the DVD is Wubbzy’s Magical Mess Up, where he “babysits” Moo Moo the Magicians magic shop, and ends up making a disaster. Another one I have seen a million times before was Tea For Three, when Widget tries to make the perfect tea party for her, Wubbzy and Walden.

One of my daughter’s favorite episodes is also on the DVD, which is Monster Madness. She just turned 2 in July and can talk quite well now, but 3 months ago, it was a little difficult to understand her. I remember when one day she started saying something that sounded like “Ooooh scary monsters!!” and I kept thinking to myself that she couldn’t possibly be saying scary monsters because she didn’t even know what scary meant, nor has she ever seen a monster. Well… I was wrong!! It was this Wubbzy episode of Monster Madness where Wubbzy gets scarred of monsters in the dark. They end up teaching kids at the end of the episode that monsters aren’t real and there is nothing to be afraid if, but I think my little girl missed that part the first couple times she saw it! lol

The three new-to-me episodes on here were The Last Leaf, The Ghost of Wuzzleburg, and March of The Pumpkins. All exciting and entertaining episodes that teach skills like honesty, fairness and cooperation. There are even some bonus features on the DVD that include a music video, songs, and a sneak peek.

Wubbzy Goes Boo is the perfect addition to your DVD collection if you are a fan of Wubbzy! Great Fall episodes that teach the same values you’ve come to love about the show.

Get Wubbzy Goes Boo on Amazon.com and let me know what you think!
