Here’s a bit of fashion news for all of you America’s Got Talent fans. A new men’s designer label is set to launch at select Nordstrom stores next month and Nick Cannon has been spotted wearing this specific label. This celebrity fashion news is a sure sign of this new brand of men’s clothing being a hit. My husband even comments on how well dressed Nick always is and has stated that he liked some of Nick’s suits. Maybe this is another anniversary gift idea for my hubby…hmmm…

Even before its September launch, NUVO has struck a chord with Hollywood. A new level in men’s designer tailored clothing, NUVO is a brand for today’s modern man who appreciates fashion, great design and superior materials.

Nick Cannon, host of the NBC summer-hit series “America’s Got Talent” has been wearing several NUVO suits including last night’s 2-piece windowpane with peak lapel and matching flat front trousers even before the collection launches at retail in the fall.

NUVO is defined by a structured silhouette and contemporary detail without compromising comfort and style. Suits made from lustrous fabrics imported from European mills (including wool/cotton or linen/cotton blends) many with stretch for enhanced fit give the collection its structured shape.

The collection, consisting of 2 and 3-piece suiting, sports coats and trousers, all made in the USA, answers the demands of the discriminating man.

NUVO will be available exclusively at select Nordstrom stores starting in August.

Those of you fashionistas in the New York area or planning a trip to New York before November 13, 2010 have the opportunity to attend FIT Museum’s Eco-Fashion Display. The Museum at FIT is said to be, “The Most Fashionable Museum in New York City”. And it really sounds like it would be a great exhibit to see! I know if we were in New York, my daughter would be begging for us to attend!

This video is about the “Going Green” special fashion exhibit. I know many of us desire to support and learn more about the advances in eco-fashion. Going to see the “Eco-Fashion: Going Green” exhibit at FIT Museum in New York is one way to not only support eco-fashion, but learn about it as well. According to Afingo, the exhibit goes into the history of eco-fashion and the relationship fashion has with the environment – both the good and bad.

Without further adieu, here is a video, thanks to Afingo’s newsletter for sharing about this seemingly rare fashion event:

Take a look at a few of these photos too:

Here’s a link to a more detailed press release, with additional information and photos!

Afingo list’s the address to the museum as:

An Expert Guide to Summer Fashion Trends for Kids

May 20th, 2010 by Theresa Gould

Mary Beth is the Co-Founder and VP of Apparel for FashionPlaytes and has over 20 years of experience in producing private label apparel for well-known international brands. At heart, she is an artist and a fashion designer. With summer fast approaching, warm weather fashion is on the minds of many moms and their daughters. To provide some guidance for moms of fashion-obessed youngsters, children’s apparel expert and Co-Founder of FashionPlaytes, a virtual design studio for girl 5-12, Mary Beth Tirrell is offering a quick trend overview for moms and daughters before they hit the racks.

The following is Mary Beth’s breakdown of the top summer fashion trends for tween girls (above is a picture of Mary Beth and her daughter Phaedra, who is wearing a FashionPlaytes outfit that she designed herself) :

- Hawaiian Style: Go tropical chic with vintage surf graphic looks from old Waikiki. Designers and surf brands will be showcasing old school styles from the Aloha state, and this is a fun and sporty look that is accessible for all ages.

- Ombre Color Schemes: This “mono-hue” palette trend will be very popular this summer, and can also extend into building color themes with outfits as girls create their own “ombre stylized” ensembles. For example, try pairing royal blue capri pants with powder blue sleeveless shirt and navy blue cotton cardigan – then continue the fun with jewelry and accessories. The key is sticking to the same color family.

- Sailor: Salute to crisp whites paired with striped tee’s and nautical themed graphics and appliqués. Style the ensemble with a ponytail secured with a bright ribbon, and complete the look with cool white sunglasses.

- Feminine Details: Pretty eyelet and lace trim will sweeten up any summer look. Look for these details on everything from fancy party dresses to a lace-trimmed tank top to add some girliness when paired with a favorite pair of denim shorts.

The Revolution of High Fashion – Interview with Ms. LeWinter

March 31st, 2010 by Theresa Gould

“Between the recent launch of the Vogue Curvy site and now French Elle’s first plus-size issue, it gives more validation that plus-size is making its way into the high-fashion world. These significant steps show the acceptance and praise of plus-size women and we believe that even more U.S media will catch on to this ever-growing trend and continue to view beauty through real women,” said Nancy LeWinter, Editorial Director of OneStopPlus.com Group Division.

We recently had the privilege of interviewing Ms. LeWinter about the revolution that we are witnessing in the high fashion world since they have begun to include plus size women in their magazines and on their websites.

Q & A with Nancy LeWinter, Editorial Director of OneStopPlus.com

The Fashionable Bambino (TFB) – It has been an interesting revolution these past few months to see Vogue and now, French Elle feature plus sized models in their magazines. I find it refreshing. Did this come as a surprise to you?

Nancy LeWinter (NLW) – This recognition of the plus size category is both refreshing and long overdue, since it represents the majority of American women. Glamour and Marie Claire have been making significant contributions to the new sensibility and acknowledgement, so further media attention is likely.

TFB – What are your thoughts about how this revolutionary change in the high fashion world has come about?

NLW – Often, a poor economy and other influencers can cause traditional fashion to look for new market opportunities. While the plus-size market segment has always existed and always been ready to be as fashionable as their thinner counterparts, many fashion companies and magazines did not have the need or desire to validate the segment until the necessity became a business reality.

TFB – I recently read an article that said something to the affect that statistics show that consumers are more willing buy products from models closer to their own size . I found that interesting and am not sure that I agree. What about you, what do you think of that? I wish I could reference that article for you…

NLW – I would think the article was about finding it far easier to achieve credibility when the consumer can identify with the person or company selling them products. Credibility is also based on having a true knowledge and authority on the subject matter and OneStopPlus.com’s consumers consistently say that we “understand” them…what they want, how they live, and how they want to look, and that makes all the difference in their purchasing behavior.

TFB – Do you really think the general public will be accepting of this change from super thin models to plus size?

NLW – In the best of all worlds, there will be models of all shapes, sizes, and ethnicities, since that would be truly reflective of the population and both inspire and motivate women to know they desire to be treated as equals.

TFB – Do you think that since big name magazines like Vogue and French Elle have chosen to be pioneers in marketing plus size women that all of the other magazines will follow? Or do you see them waiting to see how this venture goes before they get on the band wagon?

NLW – Most of the fashion magazines have been doing small features about “Dress your Size”, “Look Great at Every Size” etc. for a long time. The validation by Vogue and Elle might well prompt other magazines to do more.

TFB – I am pleased with the changes I see happening. However, I am somewhat skeptical of how long the shift will last. I would love for it to continue so that little boys and girls growing up now will grow up seeing a variety of sizes in mainstream media, rather than the super thin models. What about other plus size women, what is their general response?

NLW – I think we all feel as you do…it is a freedom to be who you are and feel great in your own skin, without the world passing judgement. Our children have learned an extraordinary lesson in democracy this past year, and it would be wonderful if there could be a true “Size Democracy”, without the judgements and preconceived notions, and where everyone has the equal opportunity to have their fashion needs and desires fulfilled.

TFB – Has One Stop Plus seen any noticeable differences due to this shift in the fashion world?

NLW – We have definitely seen increased empowerment for all women. It is so exciting when fashion icons like Vogue and Elle say that everyone is invited to the fashion party…now we just need the perfect outfit…and that’s where OneStopPlus.com comes in. We work very hard to really listen and respond with selection, convenience and community, and getting back to that credibility, we find that women really trust our thousands and thousands of customer reviews.

Thank you, Ms. LeWinter, for taking the time to speak with us via email. It was a pleasure to discuss this revolutionary high fashion shift with you.

Parish Nation Inspired High School Fashion Shows

March 25th, 2010 by Theresa Gould

I thought this story was interesting. It is a clip we received about Parish Nation inspiring high school fashion shows and entrepreneurship. I love it when people, companies, schools etc. encourage young people to take on new challenges and to learn new things. It is something all of us, especially as parents, should be encouraging our own children, nieces and nephews to get involved in because it is all a part of raising responsible adults. I applaud Parish Nation and the work these students did to put on their fashion show. Read the full story below:

On Wednesday, March 17, 2010, Parish Nation, a New York based men’s contemporary apparel company, led the Senior Fashion Entrepreneurship class at the Norman Thomas High School on East 33rd Street in full runway fashion show production. In four short weeks, the senior class at Norman Thomas High School has accomplished more than most professionals can in this limited time frame. The class has orchestrated a complete runway fashion show, demonstrating the progression of fashion from the past, to the present, and finally the future. The styles of the future were chosen based on the trends we see today in the fashion world.

Parish Nation has been working with local inner city high schools for two years now to get them involved in the fashion community and show the students how to apply their teachings to the outside world. In two years, Parish Nation has worked with four high schools to produce a runway fashion show.

“We want the legacy of Norman Thomas High School to be positive – that we can accomplish anything we set our minds to. This class has really provided us with a sense of community. It is a place where we can all be ourselves and express our creativity. No one is judging each other and we are all working towards a common goal – to produce the best fashion show of the year!” – The Senior Fashion Entrepreneurship Class at Norman Thomas High School

During the fashion show, clothing from Parish Nation, Akademiks, Cody Ross and Sean John was used to portray each time period. Experts in each category include – Chaka Wilson, co-owner of Parish Nation, who has worked with the class on a weekly basis to teach them about fashion and runway fashion shows; Anoma Ya Whittaker, the Fashion Director at Complex Magazine, who has been working with the stylist team to teach them about fashion and accessorizing; Byron Kirkland, the Marketing Director at Sean John Clothing, has been working with the marketing team; Fred Gaymon, an audio and visual consultant for Blassie Media is working with the production team, and China Flowers, owner of China Flowers Group has been working with the ground crew to make sure all
bases for the final production are complete.

About Parish Nation

Parish Nation is dedicated to continuing with its mission to bring the brands vision of “health, wealth, and wisdom” to the masses. Accessing a new type of originality, Parish Nation brings a fresh aesthetic and new approach into the contemporary sportswear market. Driven by the consumer and cultural influences, and uplifted by creative expression, Parish Nation embraces a generation with its message and meaning – both in thought and in style. Evolving from a brand that debuted onto the scene with a retro-mix and highly graphic prints to one that now relies on detail and subdued motifs, Parish Nation continues to create functional garments that their consumers have embraced. Well-known for its outwear and denim lines that use premium fabric and a modern, fitted
cut, Parish Nation rises above competitors with its custom patterns, embroidered designs, and washes. For more information see www.parish-nation.com, www.facebook.com/ParishNation and twitter.com/parishnation

BOXeight’s Fashion: Refocus During LA Fashion Week

Here’s a bit of celebrity fashion news that we received late yesterday afternoon, but that I did not read it until this morning! Read on to read about BOXeight’s Fashion: Refocus During LA Fashion Week…

Dancing With The Stars beauty Karina Smirnoff attended on Friday night when designers Isabel Lu, Skingraft, Funktional, and Goldspun were unveiling their Fall 2010 collections.

Karina looked gorgeous sporting a lighter and shorter hair style while she toured the space admiring all of the designers’ looks. She seemed very impressed with the photo installations and enjoyed watching the models prepping at the hair and makeup stations.

She spent most of the night walking around with her girlfriend she arrived with, and she fell in love with the BOXeight mascot Otis.

On Saturday night the studio was packed with the fashion industry’s elite as they viewed the Fall/Winter collections of Eduardo Lucero, Lloyd Klein, Michael Costello, Le Sang Des Betes, and Leukin.

Celebrity fashionista and DJ Caroline D’Amore provided the music for the evening, spinning a mix of House and 80s. Caroline seemed to be enjoying the party as much as the guests, often dancing to her own beats with two girlfriends in tow.

Last night was the final night of the Fashion : Refocus event, and celebrity DJ Taryn Manning provided the music.

Vogue Curvy

I just read an article the other day about designers sending curvy models down the catwalk, then we received an email announcing Vogue Italia is also featuring curvier models. As a healthy, full-figured mom of soon-to-be eight, I find this refreshing because I honestly do not believe we were all meant to be one size, especially size zero!

Just think if the fashion world did accept all sizes….I cannot really fathom it, but just maybe over time the fashion world will evolve and do just that though.

Here’s Stephanie Sobel, President of OneStopPlus.com Group, the world’s first and largest plus size web mall offers an expert commentary on what this move means for the fashion industry.

We are extremely excited about the launch of Vogue Italia’s curvy site, as this is yet another example of the ways in which plus size women are being empowered and respected as trendsetters in the industry, as much as their size 0 counterparts. This is an important move and could be the catalyst for higher end designers and media to cater to real women,” – noted Stephanie, Sobel, President of OneStopPlus.com Group.
