We recently received “Flowers by Number” written by David Shapiro & illustrated by Hayley Vair.  The first of their “Little Naturalist” series has quickly become a favorite book in our family.  My two year old loves the flowers that practically pop out of the page at you. She will point and count along as I read the Latin names and detailed descriptions of plant anatomy from 0-10. She is now excited to point out different flowers (and sometimes weeds) as we go on our daily walk through our neighborhood.

Starting with the first tools, sticks & stones, the book shows the progression of technology from the cave days through our modern world. Though the subject matter is a bit advanced for my two year old, the brilliant illustrations and whimsical depictions of humans keep her interest.
