3 Income Opportunities That Won’t Take Away From Family Time

Maybe you hate the idea of spending so much time at work rather than with your family. Perhaps you’ve just had a baby and wish to take that opportunity to embark on a career change that lets you spend more time with your little one. Whatever your reason, there actually are careers and other income opportunities out there that make it easy to have plenty of family time. These opportunities can be done on a part- or full-time basis. Some let you be your own boss while others offer more traditional employment options. What they all have in common is they allow for more flexible hours or remote work opportunities that let you spend more time with your family.

1. Website Developer

Website developers frequently work from home and can have more flexible hours than other traditional positions. There is an abundance of work for website developers as well, as more and more companies and start-ups look to create and maintain eye-catching, quality websites. (The BLS estimates a whopping 27% growth rate for this occupation, which is considered “much faster than average.”) You don’t necessarily have to have a degree to design websites and get paid for it – your portfolio of work and skill with coding can speak for itself. Although if you are seeking traditional employment, a degree might be required. An associate’s degree in web design is all that’s needed to seek an entry-level position, and there might be shorter, specialized courses available as well to get you jump-started.

2. Direct Sales

Legitimate direct sales and multi-level marketing opportunities can be an excellent source of income. Individuals working with a direct sales company can specialize in just about every product imaginable, from cosmetics to telecommunications services. When choosing which company to work for, make sure you do your research, like these ACN Reviews. If you’re interested in pursuing a career in sales, you need to understand the work that needs to be put into it. To be truly successful in sales, you have to have the right personality: successful salespeople enjoy interacting with people, genuinely believe in the virtues of the product they are selling and are able to not come across as “pushy salespeople.” It can take time to refine your pitches, but with some natural inclination and a lot of practice, you can become a skilled and successful salesperson working as a direct sales agent.

3. Freelancing/Starting A Business

There can be nothing more liberating in this world than being your own boss. You get to do what you love, set your own hours and in many cases work from home. This understandably helps give you more time with your family because you don’t have to commute to work, and you can work while your children are sleeping or at school. The drawback to this option is that it includes a lot of work, especially at the beginning, and regular income is never guaranteed. But if your spouse already works regular, full-time hours, there should really be nothing stopping you from doing some freelance work on the side if you would be staying at home anyway. When setting up your business, consider your skills and interests and always be willing to learn concepts with which you might not be familiar. If you’ve always wanted to start your own business and love consulting, for example, try and make a go of it.

It’s become considerably harder to have much of a work-life balance in the modern workforce, but for people who have or want to have families, there are still options. In fact, the careers mentioned above largely allow for you to work at home and provide amply flexible working hours. If being able to spend time with your family is a concern when it comes to your income source, then definitely consider any of the options mentioned above. If you’re lucky, you may end up making much more money than you would at a traditional job while putting in far fewer hours.
