There is an interesting article by Erica Jong in today’s Weekend Edition of the Wall Street Journal. Â Buried within her article, which denounces attachment parenting in a big way, is a very real concern for women and the need to maintain a sense of individuality. Â As a mother of 3 who has just gone back to work outside the home for the first time in 16 years, I have a new and greater empathy for those women who have been able to juggle the demands of mothering (attachment or not) with the desire to maintain a career. Â As a society we are quick to praise the selfless mother who sacrifices everything for her children, but what about the woman who NEEDS to work outside the home or the woman who is a better mother because she is able to bring a greater dimension and perspective to her children because of her career? Aren’t all mothers, and parents, deserving of our support simply because they are doing the best they can? Â Here is the link to the article:
