Morning Sickness Cures: Pregnancy Tea

Posted on: February 16, 2010 @ 3:08 pm     7 Comments »

I think that Traditional Medicinals Pregnancy Tea is a must-have for every pregnant woman. Here’s why:

I’m almost to the end of my first trimester and I’ve already gone through 2 boxes of this tea. I’ve had horrible morning sickness with this pregnancy (none with my first) and I’ve found this tea, first thing in the morning, has been EXTREMELY helpful.

I was throwing up constantly for the first couple weeks of my pregnancy, but after 2 days of drinking this tea, I stopped throwing up. I’ve still been extremely queasy, which this tea eases a lot, but I haven’t actually thrown up since I started on a routine with this tea.

I think it’s a must-have for every pregnant woman. First thing in the morning, make yourself a cup of this tea. Sit down, drink it slowly with some toast, a muffin, or a few crackers. It really starts off your day on the right foot and get’s your morning sickness in check!

Purchase It: Traditional Medicinals Pregnancy Tea on Amazon.com

Price: around $5

Ingrid and Isabel BellaBand Maternity Band Review

Posted on: February 15, 2010 @ 4:06 pm     No Comments »

If you’re looking for the best maternity band or tummy sleeve to keep your pre-pregnancy pants up in your first trimester, you’ve come to the right place! Lucky for you, I tested a few different brands out and found the best maternity band to invest in!

Say hello to the BellaBand from Ingrid and Isabel.

Okay now how come I didn’t know about this with my last pregnancy??? This thing is nothing short of a miracle. Not only does it keep my pants up, it also supports my growing belly too. You can wear it over your whole belly or fold it over to give extra underbelly support. It works with jeans, pants, shorts, skirts and whatever non-maternity bottoms you want to wear after you become pregnant.

I have found this week, that the BellaBand is also great for keeping up maternity pants that are still a little bit too big. I bought some Gap maternity jeans that fit good at first, but stretched out after a few hours of use, much to my disappointment. I threw on the BellaBand and it kept that up, nice and snug!

I also hear that the BellaBand can be worn to help keep your belly from pushing your pants down, a big problem during the third trimester! And it can also be used post-partum to help you fit back into your non-maternity jeans sooner. Yay!

Click here to find a retailer near you, or purchase online at one of our affiliates:

The original BellaBand come in a variety of colors (depending on the retailer) as well as a Lace Trim BellaBand for fancier occasions. You can even get the new BellaBand Organic now made with organic cotton!

Whatever you decide , I know you’ll be happy with your BellaBand. I know I am!

I don’t know about you, but I haven’t had much opportunity to shop for nursing or maternity lingerie. HOTmilk seems to have come up with a unique product line that fills a void in the market place for women looking for “special” maternity/nursing lingerie. There are a couple of nightwear items that I’d probably buy, but the rest I could probably live without. Just call me a prude. ;-) I am just too practical, I guess.

Destination Maternity is Red Hot This Valentine’s Day

Posted on: January 25, 2010 @ 8:00 am     No Comments »

Each of us will have different tastes and styles, especially when it comes to clothing. During pregnancy, it can be a challenge to feel that we look great, wouldn’t you agree? The key is finding clothing that is flattering to our ever-changing size and shape while expecting. Expecting a baby is a special time in our lives and there is no reason why we shouldn’t continue to look and feel great. I know I will need to go through all of my maternity clothes this spring and may need to add a few pieces to my wardrobe since it has been nearly seven years since I was pregnant through the summer months. So if you are like me, you probably keep your eye open for that next new article of maternity clothing that appeals to your eye, especially if you have a special event to attend.

Destination Maternity seems to have some decent prices and at least a variety of items. I haven’t found anything that tickles my fancy yet, but…

We did receive word that…

Destination Maternity® is Red Hot This Valentine’s Day!

Take a peek and see what you think…

“This Valentine’s Day, love is in the air and it’s definitely showing! The expectant mom is dressing for two and Destination Maternity will make Valentine’s Day hotter than ever with Motherhood Maternity and A Pea in the Pod Collection.

From sexy lingerie to beautiful dresses, Destination Maternity has got the special mom-to-be covered.

Whether the mom-to-be chooses Motherhood Maternity’s amazingly priced 3/4 Sleeve Faux Wrap Maternity Dress ($29.98) or A Pea in the Pod Collection’s sexy red lace thong from Hanky Panky ($18), she will look and feel her best!”

Demin Therapy has come up with a way for expectant moms to continue to wear their comfy old jeans all throughout their pregnancy, which should excite a lot of you moms! Denim Therapy is a way for you to save money on buying new maternity jeans!

Denim Therapy is actually providing a service that allows your jeans to become maternity jeans and thus grow with your “bump”. Denim Therapy services “expand your jeans to accommodate pregnancy by inserting expandable side inseams that move and grow with mom-to-be.” After you have your baby, Denim Therapy will take the expandable inserts out and restore your jeans to their former pre-baby shape. The cost of both services is $60. This provides a way for you to preserve not only your jeans but the environment, too! DSC_6067

The goal of Denim Therapy is to provide environmentally conscious repair for your favorite blue jeans. In addition to the maternity service mentioned above, they also provide repairs on worn, torn, ripped or tattered jeans. You name it, they can do it – hems, zippers, pocket repair and even belt loop stitching. Each item is assessed and reconstructed individually, “one denim patient at a time, like a true denim doctor.”

They use MatchPerfect™ cotton thread to find the thread closest to the color of your jeans and it is this selection process that enables them to create the best looking repair possible. Denim repair costs an estimated $7.00 per inch, plus shipping, which on the average is $12.00 per pair. There is an approximate 2 week turnaround. For additional information, http://denimtherapy.com It’s the perfect solution – repair and reuse.

Best Nursing Bras & Maternity Bras

Nursing Bras

For the vast majority of women, wearing a bra is a part of everyday life. Though they might sometimes be a little uncomfortable and buying a perfectly fitting bra can often resemble a hunt for the Holy Grail, wearing a bra is important to give our bust support and keep it in the right place – particularly important if you regularly find yourself running for the bus! Wearing a comfortable and well fitting bra is, however, particularly important for women who have recently given birth and there are a number of specially designed nursing bras designed especially for the job. It is important for new mothers to wear nursing bras for a number of reasons. First of all, they are specially constructed to give extra support to breasts that have naturally increased in size – many women find having suddenly bigger breasts to be heavy and uncomfortable and so a supportive bra is really important to ensure new mothers are comfortable and supported. Nursing bras are also useful in keeping breast pads in place and most importantly allow easy access when your baby needs feeding.

There are a number of important factors to keep in mind when choosing a nursing bra that’s right for you. Firstly, it’s important to make sure that the edge of the bra cups cover your breasts right up to your upper ribs, as this will ensure the greatest possible level of comfort and support. Around the bottom of the cups, the seam should fit snugly around your ribs under your breasts, which will again ensure the maximum possible level of comfort and support. If you’re buying your nursing bra before you begin breast feeding (which understandably most women will), it is very important to make sure that you can lay your hand flat against your breast inside the bra – this makes sure you have room for further swelling, which you are more than likely to need! As with any normal bra, it is crucial to make sure you buy a nursing bra with straps that are both comfortable and adjustable. It is probably a good idea to buy a nursing bra with wide straps, as they will need to support more weight than you are used to. Lastly, a crucial factor to check when buying a nursing bra is whether or not you will be able to easily manage to do up and undo the fastenings; remember, you’ll often need to do this with one hand! An extra point to think about is the number of nursing bras you invest in. Nursing bras take a lot of wear and tear and so it is definitely worth buying more than one!

When it comes to the style of nursing bra you choose, there are two basic styles out there to pick between – the drop down cup and the zip cup. Neither is particularly better than the other and which one you choose is really down to personal preference (if opting for a drop down cup though, make sure the inner cup is not too tight fitting). Unsurprisingly, the styles and fashions available in nursing bras are rather limited when compared to normal bras, but that’s not to say you’ll be stuck with a boring grandma-looking brassiere! Nursing bras are now available in a variety of different sizes, some more plain, whilst others incorporate lace detailing or translucent panels. You’d also be wrong in thinking that all maternity bras are white. Though many women do opt for at least one white nursing bra, maternity bras are available in a variety of different colors to suit every wardrobe, including pink, black, blue and even leopard print for the funkiest of mummies!

Maternity Lifesaver: Tummy Sleeves

Posted on: September 17, 2009 @ 6:01 am     No Comments »

I have looked high and low for perfect maternity jeans.  My experience with maternity jeans is that they don’t fit right, they fall down, the band comes up to an awkward place, and on and on.  I once ripped the panel on one particular pair of maternity jeans from having to constantly pull them up!  Unfortunately, the ones that seem like they might work for me are way out of my price range.

Tummy sleeves are an excellent, inexpensive option for women who share in my dilemma.  Basically, it is a band that you can wear around your tummy and waist area.  They have several different uses.

1. Wear them over your unbuttoned/unzipped bottoms.  This is how I use them, even now when I’m only weeks away from delivering.  This is a great money saver; I can wear my regular jeans and save on the cost of maternity jeans.  I have also done this for skirts.

2.  Wear them over maternity bottoms that don’t fit quite right.

3. Wear them while nursing for extra coverage.  Whether or not you use a nursing cover, part of your tummy tends to show when you nurse your little one.  You can cover your mid-section with the tummy sleeve.  Nursing tops are an option, but why not buy one product that you can use throughout pregnancy and nursing?

Recommendations:

 laceBella Band

What I love about these tummy sleeves from Ingrid & Isabel is that you can get them with a lace bottom.  If your Bella Band is visible, then it will just look like you are wearing a lacy camisole underneath.  They come in a variety of colors and sizes.  Also available in organic materials.

Price: Varies by retailer

Planning on buying several? Your best bet is to check out the Bella Band sale at JC Penney.

The Tummy Sleeve

untitled

The Tummy Sleeve is from Motherhood Maternity.  Though there are fewer options (one size, three colors), these cost $7-10 dollars less than Bella Bands.  I can tell you from experience that these are durable.  This is the one that I use; it has lasted me through two pregnancies.

Price: 16.98

Belly Bandsbambooblack

Belly Bands are from Baby Be Mine.  They come in a variety of colors, patterns, and are available in four different sizes.  Baby Be Mine also has a special bamboo Belly Band collection, available in five different colors.  They are made from naturally grown bamboo and naturally breathable – a definite bonus for the pregnant women who feel hot all the time.  They are anti-static, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and 98% UV protective.

Price: 16.99 for regular fabric, 23.99 for bamboo

Get a Postpartum Recharge with Replens

Posted on: June 08, 2009 @ 8:45 am     No Comments »

Vaginal dryness is a tremendous challenge that can make new mothers feel even more overwhelmed than they already do.

iconiconWhile many women experience a stage of vaginal dryness after they give birth, a long-lasting vaginal moisturizer like Replens Long-Lasting Vaginal Moisturizericon is designed to help soothe and replenish vaginal moisture for up to three full days with a single application, helping women make the gradual transition from pregnancy back to normal daily comfort. Replens is estrogen free, hypo-allergenic, odorless and safe for nursing mothers who are especially susceptible to vaginal dryness, as they tend to experience more dramatic fluctuations in estrogen levels that can cause vaginal tissues to become thin, dry, and less elastic. Replens works immediately to provide relief so that you can worry about more important things, like being a brand-new mom.

Replens is available at most drug or discount stores as well as at Drugstore.comicon.
